Sorority Recruitment

LAP is dedicated to ensuring that your recruitment journey, from registration to bid day, is exceptionally valuable. Our goal is to thoroughly prepare you for your recruitment process, whether that is primary recruitment or the COB (Continuous Open Bidding) process.

Registering through LAP, or any other area alumnae Panhellenic, does NOT register you for recruitment at your intended university.
You must register with your university's Panhellenic to pa
rticipate in the recruitment process.

Step 1: Register on Campus

Once accepted to a university and you have decided to participate in sorority recruitment, ensure that you register with the Panhellenic organization at your intended university, not your local alumnae panhellenic association.

Details for recruitment registration can be found on the student life or student affairs section of the school's website. Be attentive to registration deadlines and fees. After registering, expect information about recruitment dates, dress codes, and schedules in the summer for fall recruitment campuses or in late fall for deferred spring recruitment campuses.

Comprehensive details are often available on the university's website, and orientation is a suitable time for inquiries.

Step 2: Research NPC Sororitites

In spring and early summer, research the NPC sororities on your campus. What information do they want from you, and from alumnae women who can recommend you?  It's important to note that references are no longer required by most NPC sororities, but are encouraged.

Start by visiting the school’s own site for Panhellenic recruitment, as in Step 1. Many will provide very specific informatio
n about what each sorority chapter on their campus requires and accepts.

Campus-specific websites offer the best resource to you. However, if you do not find specific guidelines there, you may want to research specific sororities’ requirements using their national websites found at thesororitylife.com.

Step 3: Obtain Reference Letters

During the spring and early summer, acquire personal letters of reference from sorority alumnae you personally know, adhering to each sorority's specific requirements as identified in your research from Step 2.

Many national sororities have updated their policies on recommendations and letters of support and, if required, it is your responsibility to secure these letters and submit prior to the deadline. Keep in mind that many sororities and campuses have early deadlines for recommendation letters. Personal references provide the most favorable impression to sororities, so ensure the woman providing the recommendation has relevant information about you, including your high school, activities, interests, service, and employment to enhance the recommendation's strength.  If the NPC sorority you're wanting to affiliate with does not require recommendation letters from potential new members, you may still consider submitting a letter on your behalf from an alumna who will speak favorably of you.

If assistance with recommendation letters is needed, contact LAP or the national sorority of interest to you for guidance.
